Western Australia’s current rental vacancy rate dropped to 0.6 per cent in December, the lowest since 1980.

REIWA CEO Cath Hart told 6PR Perth Live there is too much demand, with little stock.

“This new low is a new record,” said Ms Hart.

“It’s not a great record.”

To worsen the situation, labour shortages are delaying new home builds, leaving many without a place to live.

Senior Economist at Housing Industry Australia Tom Devitt told 6PR Perth Live “there’s just not enough workers.”
