A West Aussie is set to make his AFL debut on Sunday… for Sydney, but his Perth-based parents may not be there for his big moment.

When the Sydney Swans take on Richmond at the GABBA on Sunday, Chad Warner will run out in the Red and White for the first time, but because of WA’s border restrictions his family may miss his moment.

Warner’s parents Anita and Trevor, as well as his three younger brothers, want to travel to Queensland but because the boys have school and his parents run their own businesses, it would be too hard to quarantine upon the return to WA.

“To be honest, we’re not expecting to be able to go. We know that there are a lot more important circumstances, compassionately, that people haven’t been able to get exemptions for.
“We will accept whatever ends up happening on Sunday,” Mrs Warner told 6PR Breakfast.
“If we can go, we’d be rapt.”

Warner’s manager is putting in a request for the family to make the trip.
