UPDATE: A 64-year-old grandmother who arrived in Perth from the UK on Tuesday will be allowed to stay in Australia until at least tomorrow after she was told she would be deported over her vaccination status.

Her son Michael pleaded for his mother to be allowed to stay in Perth and told Oliver Peterson she had been detained for seven hours on Tuesday, during which she was questioned about her vaccination status.

She has a medical exemption due to a health condition, and Michael claims her visa and G2G pass were approved back in November.

He says they’ve been told border rules, a federal matter, have since been tightened, and his mother faces deportation.
