British–born Australian actress and director Frances O’Connor has made her directional debut with her new film Emily.

The film is her own original screenplay which tells the imagined life of one of the world’s most famous authors, Emily Brontë.

Ms O’Connor told 6PR Afternoons host Jo McManus she wanted the film to celebrate the life of the famous author.

“She didn’t get a good review until 50  years after she died,” said Ms O’Connor.
