A Perth-based equestrian endurance rider has won runner up at the world’s longest and toughest horse race the Mongol Derby.

Mongol Derby veteran Sam Jones, who won the competition in 2014, spoke to 6PR Afternoons host Julie-Anne Sprague and said she spent five hours more to complete the 1000 kilometre journey compared to the first place winner of the competition.

“Before I even did the race the first time I thought once was not going to be enough – and nothing ever changed my mind,” Ms Jones said.
