Some concerned parents of year 12 leavers want an alternative event to be held for their teenagers which would not require proof of vaccination against COVID-19.

The planned events require students to show proof of a least one dose to enter.

But member of the Alternative Leavers 2021 Facebook Group, Pauline Floate, said that requirement puts families in a precarious position.

“Parents are saying ‘please don’t (get the vaccine)’ others are saying they’re just going to crash the barriers,” she told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.

“And I think that has big implications for them, I don’t know if they really understand the implications for the police presence, they could be arrested.

“So it’s made people very, very angry and very concerned for their teenagers.

“Also the idea that teenagers might be vaccinated in the pop-up clinics that are going to be there, without parents around them to support them if they get unwell.”
