Parental leave in the spotlight as dads turn it down

Rio Tinto has increased its paid parental leave scheme to 18 weeks for both primary and secondary carers, and will make super contributions for up to a year.
The announcement comes after the Grattan Institute this week released research showing only half the fathers eligible for taxpayer-funded paid parental leave are taking it, with suggestions the scheme isn’t generous enough.
