Nurses’ call for whistleblower protections

The Australian Nurses’ Federation is pushing for so-called “Safe Harbour” laws to protect their members from potential prosecution.

ANF WA Senior Vice President Loreta Murphy told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the laws would be in place as a safety net for nurses in potentially dangerous situations.

“You don’t rock up to work with a hangover and say, ‘I feel average, I might not give the best care, I’m calling Safe Harbour’; Safe Harbour occurs when you’ve tried every other avenue to make sure a situation is safe,” Ms Murphy said.
