Melbourne Tram driver David is on holidays in Paris and was planning to visit the Notre Dame Cathedral the next morning when a devastating fire broke out.

He told 6PR Breakfast the news of the sacred site being up in flames has hit the locals hard.
“It’s a pretty surreal place here at the moment the locals are very upset,” he says.
“We’ve recently been in a bar… the owner of the bar couldn’t talk about what was going on because he was so upset.”

We spoke with our UK correspondent Enda Brady who told us some parts of the iconic church have been saved but the extent of the damage is yet to be determined.
