‘Not trivial things’: Gareth Parker lambasts Albo over twin gaffes

Gareth Parker has lambasted opposition leader Anthony Albanese after he “stumbled at the first hurdle” on day one of the federal election campaign.
Mr Albanese on Monday could not answer what the Reserve Bank’s official cash rate or national unemployment rates were.
The official cash rate has not changed since November 2020.
The 6PR Breakfast host said Albanese should know the figures and needs to shape up quickly under the “white heat of an election campaign.”
“I think ‘gotcha’ questions are occasionally stupid … designed to provoke people into reactions that are embarrassing and without substance,” Parker said on Tuesday.
“However the cash rate and the unemployment rate are not trivial things.
“The Liberal Party would just be laughing themselves silly [over the gaffe].”
Parker said the RBA faced serious decisions in the next six to 12 months to deal with the country’s emerging inflation.
“The fact Anthony Albanese couldn’t put his finger on that is a worry,” he said.
