The City of Wanneroo has recommended that Tamala Park be closed as soon as practicable, opposing the Mindarie Regional Council’s plan to continue accepting waste once the landfill cell reaches capacity.

Because the City of Wanneroo borders the landfill—which reportedly has contaminants seeping into the ground and potentially the groundwater—Central West Ward Councillor Phil Bedworth told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that residents are demanding a firm closure timeline.

“We’ve got most skin in the game, I imagine, in terms of our residents being affected by it, so we’re trying to get this place brought to its natural close as quickly as it can be without timelines being continually blown out”, Bedworth said.
