Nine council areas to be hit by condition-driven garbage strike

Residents in nine local government areas could be stuck with jam-packed wheelie bins next week after garbage collectors vowed to strike following a breakdown in talks with their employer.
The garbos will stop work from 12.01am on Wednesday in response to changing work conditions, which the Transport Worker’s Union says were already rigid.
“Cleanaway want to take away their weekends and have them on a seven-day roster,” TWU Secretary Tim Dawson told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast.
“They’re already away from their families for hours like most truck drivers; what we’re saying is, take your hands off their conditions and overtime.”
