The State Government today announced a $9.8 million package of additional initiatives aimed at increasing the supply of teachers in public schools and strengthening employment pathways. 

But not are on board with the plan.

Part of the announcement is a plan to allow teachers to work in public schools with just three years of training instead of four.

State School Teachers’ Union President-elect, Matt Jarman, told Oly Peterson on Perth Live its not a good scenario either way, with or without this action.

“One of the most damning statistics from this last six months is the number of graduates not even getting into the profession…about one-in-five.”
