New figures have revealed assaults on WA police officers are at a record four year high.

They were especially high in regional areas, in Esperance assaults were up a whopping 75 per cent and Kimberly showed a 38 per cent increase.

There was a 35 per cent rise in Fremantle, and in the Northbridge entertainment complex they were up by 20 per cent.

President of the WA Police Union Mick Kelly told 6PR Breakfast the “statistics are quite alarming”.

“I think the community out there that’s minority groups just simply don’t respect our men and women in blue,” he said.

“While you’re out there … if you have an interaction with one of our members, comply, be polite, everything’s recorded on body ward cameras, and your actions will be captured and used as evidence.”
