Anyone with a property more than 1,100 square metres will be forced to apply for a permit before clearing trees, building fences or digging trenches if proposed new legislation passes.

Shadow Lands Minister Neil Thomson told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the public would be largely unaware of the changes, which cme into effect on July 1.

“The worst part about it is the government hasn’t even got the permit system up and running yet,” Mr Thomson said.
