Nationals leader warns Labor’s methane pledge will lead to soaring meat prices
Farmers, gas producers and landfill operators are worried they could face a new tax on methane emissions as the Federal Government has signed up to an international pledge to reduce 30% of methane emissions by 2030.
Leader of the Nationals, David Littleproud is concerned with this decision as he has says consumers will be hit with a price hike on meat, hurting many who are already struggling with the country’s cost of living crisis.
“What they are going to have to do is tax both ends of that cow or they’re going to have to find a way to reduce it without driving up costs,” David Littleproud told Oliver Peterson onĀ Perth Live.
“We had methane as part of overall emission reductions so as part of our commitment to net zero, we were looking at the whole economy and all of the emissions and how we could do that overall.
“So this is a challenge that the governments made, a commitment too without any real solution.”
