Grandparent carer turned author Nada Lubay joined Millsy at Midday host Steve Mills in the 6PR studios to discuss the inspiration and passion behind her new book, based in parts on her life as a grandparent.

Silent Heroines focuses on the positives of grandparents and is full of humour, portraying them as a resilient, resourceful bunch of oldies not afraid to laugh at themselves and make fun of their circumstances.

“Like many other grandparents in WA, we’ve stepped in to provide safety for the child,” she told Millsy.

“And then what you have to do, is just get on with your life… forget that you have retirement, forget troubles, you forget that you’re married, and you just start parenting again.”

This Sunday is National Grandparents Day, an annual event to recognise and celebrate the contribution grandparents make to their families and the broader community.
