The number of pet owners seeking to certify their dogs as assistance animals is increasing, allowing them to accompany their pets to a broader range of public places, including flights and medical appointments.

According to Nikki Bignell from Therapy and Support Animals Australia, any breed can be trained as an assistance dog.

“It’s about the nature of the dog, and the control the handler has and the bond the handler has with the dog to make sure that that dog is not going to cause trauma to any other person in that environment,” she told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl.
