A national review of primary care workforce regulations is investigating ways to increase Australians’ access to quality health care, with pharmacist’s ability to prescribe medications high on the list.

Grattan Institute Health and Aged Care Program Director Peter Breadon told Russell Collett on 6PR Afternoons the trial is aimed at making the medication process more efficient and to take pressure off GPs.

“If your GP is comfortable and agrees, and your treatment stays the same, it seems like something that should be possible,” Mr Breadon said.
