More courts & judges need to fix length of appeals process
More courts and more judges are needed to deal with the length of time an appeals process can take in WA according to a Perth lawyer.
The comments come after Gene Gibson was today freed from prison after the Court of Appeal quashed his manslaughter conviction over the death of Josh Warneke in Broome in 2010.
Nicole Young from HHG Legal Group says the release of Mr Gibson after five years behind bars is has taken a fairly typical amount of time for an appeals process and the only way to fix that is to put more judges in more courtrooms.
She spoke with Oliver Peterson.
