Monarchists say $5 note decision is ‘republicanism by stealth’
The Australian Monarchist League say Australia’s sovereign should not be removed from coins or notes until the country becomes a republic.
National Chair of the Australian Monarchist League, Philip Benwell, told Gary Adshead the decision by the Albanese government to not feature King Charles in the next $5 note is typical of the government trouncing Australian democracy.
“They forget that King Charles is the King of Australia until the people decide otherwise at referendum,” Mr Benwell said.
“It is utter hypocrisy to attend the coronation of the King whilst you’re planning to topple him.”
