LONG WAY TO THE TOP : Tour blog

DAY 9: After a cruisy day broadcasting from picturesque Wyndham, Millsy had an amazing day in Kununurra, with plenty of action off and on the air.

Broadcasting live from the Kununurra Visitor Centre, Steve spoke with the centre’s general manager Vivienne McEvoy about the array of tourism operators and experiences in the region, and the influx of local visitors since the pandemic began.
Local builder Laurie Harvey also joined the Millsy at Midday broadcast, revealing he had built some of the very first buildings in the gorgeous, sun-soaked town in his 50-plus years in the industry.
The broadcast is part of Millsy’s Long Way to the Top tour, which sees him broadcast from a different location each day as he travels through WA’s beautiful North West, towing a luxurious Jayco Outback Journey that he and partner Tricia will call home for five weeks.

We loved his chat with Hairy Dog (also known as Greg Harman, above), owner of Hairy Dog’s Fishing Camp.

Hairy’s a bit of a local legend in these parts, as well as a trusty fishing guide and tour operator.

Hearing Frauke Bolten-Boshammer’s inspirational story was quite remarkable also.

Just three years after moving to Kununurra from Germany in 1981 to start a new journey, her husband took his own life. Frauke (below with Millsy) also lost a son.

She tells Millsy how she decided to stay in the region with her children and forged a diamond empire with Kimberley Fine Diamonds.

Admirably aided by his patient partner Tricia, who is capturing the action behind the scenes, Millsy’s radio road trip adventure will see him broadcast live from some the state’s most remote and renowned towns and destinations, daily from 12pm to 3pm, capturing the qualities of each town and the people that make them tick, with his journey detailed in his Long Way to the Top tour blog, which we’ll update after each broadcast.

We’ve also got him sending great BTS footage you can see on our socials. What could go wrong? Well, plenty it seems.

Long Way to the Top official schedule

Wednesday’s broadcast saw Millsy shed his long pants as he crossed the border into the Northern Territory, broadcasting from Timber Creek, where he encounters a host of rambunctious characters for the show.

So follow our socials to keep track of his travails, with exclusive footage and pics from the road, and tune in from 12pm-3pm to listen to Millsy at Midday.
