Mid-air drama after Broome detainee ‘lunges towards pilot’

A 17-year-old boy charged with leading police on a pursuit through Broome earlier this week has now been accused of rushing the pilot in the cockpit of a charter plane transporting he and two other detainees from Broome to Perth.
Police say just minutes into Wednesday afternoon’s flight, the 17-year-old attempted to rush towards the pilot, before two other detainees began kicking the plane’s interior.
Corrective Services Commissioner Mike Reynolds told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast the detainee undid his seatbelt to move towards the pilot before being restrained by five youth custodial officers from the Department of Justice.
“Once the first detainee had started to kick and thrash, the other two decided it would be a good idea as well and started to play up and they were also restrained by the youth custodial officers on the flight,” he said.
