Australia will be a target for future hackers if Medibank pays the ransom of the alleged cyber criminals who stole personal details of its 9.2 million customers and sensitive health records of 480,000 members.

Tech expert Trevor Long from EFTM believes the health insurer is doing the right thing by refusing to pay up, on the advice of the government.

“I think they’re doing the right thing,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast, after the details of more Medibank customers were leaked on the dark web overnight.

“Paying it will put a big target on Australia [from future hackers].

Today’s release is the third in three days from the hackers, this time revealing the private health records of 241 Australian on an online ransomware forum.
