Aged migrant parents in Australia are to be hit with a 50% cost increase for medical insurance starting in July.

Those on a visitor visa or bridging visa must have this cover as part of the visa condition and permanent resident application.

Canning Vale resident and daughter of a migrant parent Lindsey Woolley told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live so many families want to look after their aged parents, let them spent time with their grandchildren and this is just causing stress to the vulnerable.

“Families can’t afford it any more, there’s no other option…The wait times on visas have blown out from what used to be five or six years, to now beyond 12,” Ms Woolley said.
