The Matildas are heading into the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026 as favourites, according to Sarah Caroll, Former Player and Female Football & Advocacy Manager at Football West.

Speaking to The Long Lunch host Tod Johnston, Caroll explained the tournament, which kicks off in Perth this weekend against the Philippines, is vital for the team:

“I think they’re well within a chance of doing very, very well in this tournament and of course it’s a crucial step in their journey towards the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027,” she said.
