The Federal Government has defended its sanctions against Russia over its war with Ukraine.

Since the start of the conflict, Australia has sanctioned hundreds of Russian individuals and entities, including most of Russia’s banking sector and all organisations responsible for the country’s sovereign debt.

Defence Minister Richard Marles told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings that Australia will not ban Russian tourists from entering the country and defended Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s upcoming attendance at the G20 Summit in Bali, which Russian President Vladmir Putin is expected to also attend.

“It’s really important we are at that forum … the G20 can make clear to Russia it’s anxiety and displeasure for committing the outrage it has against the Ukraine,” he said.
