Mankini madness: Public outcry as Olympic equestrian stood down over ‘funny’ stunt

What began as a “funny joke” during a community showjumping event has potentially ended a star Olympian’s career, sparking outrage across the country.

Acclaimed equestrian competitor Shane Rose has been stood down by Equestrian Australia after riding in a mankini at the Wallaby Hill Extravaganza, pending an investigation into the event.

Mr Rose told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings the decision has come as a shock, especially considering he has a competitive event planned in New Zealand in two weeks.

“I’ve been around for a while, but if I was a young guy and this was my first Olympics, it would be devastating,” he said.
