Man charged after allegedly opening fire at Canberra Airport

A NSW man has been charged after a shooting at Canberra Airport yesterday that forced an evacuation of the terminal.
Australian Federal Police say the man arrived at the airport around 1.20pm and began shooting five minutes later.
He allegedly fired five shots towards glass windows and did not direct his gun at any passengers or staff.
The incident caused confusion on the tarmac, with a recording revealing a worried pilot called the control tower over apparent chaos in the terminal.
“Do you know anything about what is happening in the terminal?” he asked. “There seems to be a lot of people running and nobody is answering our radio calls.”
All flights were grounded but the airport reopened at 5pm, with flights arriving and departing again shortly before 6pm.
Have been briefed by the AFP on the incident at Canberra Airport this afternoon. I am advised a man has been detained and there is no ongoing threat present.
