Channel 9 held an ace up its sleeve all summer leading into the first big television ratings night of the year and it did not come away disappointed.

The network joined Seven and 10 launching its new reality TV seasons last night, all competing for top spot in the ratings game.

After two weeks of promoting its hit reality show Married At First Sight during the just-completed Australian Open, Channel 9 executives would have breathed a sigh of relief to see it trump Seven’s The Voice and Survivor on Channel 10 on Monday night off the back of its tennis coverage.

MAFS won the night overall across key demographics and metro capitals, with 869,000 viewers.

Surprisingly, Survivor: Blood Vs. Water, was second with 608,000 viewers, while The Voice: Generations even finished behind the 7.30 Report on ABC, with a metro audience of just 529,000.
