Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas says he welcomes the state governments announcement of new measures which will be used to curb violence in Northbridge and the CBD.

Premier Mark McGowan introduced a raft of measures including increased safety funding and police presence in the notorious hotspots.

There will also be funding allocated towards patrols by Aboriginal liaison and security service RooForce.

“What the state government announced yesterday, entirely in line with the City of Perth and me as Lord Mayor for 14 months have been calling for, are very welcomed by everybody,” Mr Zempilas said on 6PR Mornings.

“We have to have a safe environment in our capital city … so I welcome these measures, they are a response to what the City of Perth has been calling for.

“This is a very, very good start towards creating a safer environment in our city.”
