Lord Mayor defends e-scooter trial despite injury concerns

Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas has backed the continuation of the e-scooter trial in the City of Perth, saying that reports of injuries and crime are mostly associated with private e-scooter ownership and not publicly-supplied scooters.
Mr Zempilas talked to Gary Adshead on 6pr Mornings about how much time and effort the City had put into the development of the program, and had deliberately put in place a framework that would strop people taking advantage of the system.
“I think a lot of the poor behaviour that exists in our community around e-scooters is probably not that far off the mark,” Mr Zempilas said.
“For instance, if there’s a scooter out the front and you jump on, you can’t get on unless you put the helmet on.”
