Farmers across Western Australia are on edge, believing it is inevitable foot and mouth disease will impact their industry and livelihood.

WA Farmers Federation CEO Trevor Whittington told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast comments from Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan that hosed down fears of a local “catastrophe” from foot and mouth disease were wrong.

He said an outbreak would eventually stop meat and milk being consumed in WA households.

“The brutal reality is, we get an FMD outbreak in the South West of the state, there’ll be no milk, no meat on the shelves within hours, because the mad rush will be 10 times worse than on toilet paper during COVID,” he told Parker on Friday.
