Several WA councils have joined a group of 120 local governments to call on the Federal Government to supercharge the country’s supply of affordable electric vehicles.

A joint statement released today by the Cities Power Partnership want legislation to give consumers more choice and affordability in electric vehicles, as well as more laws supporting development.

Bassendean Mayor Kath Hamilton told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast a lack of support for the electric vehicle industry was limiting the development of an Australian market.

“We’re one of the few countries in the world that don’t have these stringent standards, and it makes us a dumping ground for less efficient vehicles,” Ms Hamilton said.
