Lightning Strikes Ice Twice

Article image for Lightning Strikes Ice Twice

The Mirrabooka ice rink has been struck by lightning twice in a year and the owners are asking the public to help the second time around after only just recovering from the storm of 2016.

The building was stuck by lightning in the electrical storm last Wednesday and hit machinery that helps keep the ice frozen. The ice melted and has caused flooding damage to the building including the reception area.

Marie Lowick is a Managing Director at Xtreme Ice Arena and spoke to Simon Beaumont about their ice issues. The owners run multiple fundraising events, including events for Telethon, throughout the year and are now asking for a bit of help from the community.
