The Royal Life Saving Society of WA is pleading with parents not to just “dump” their kids at public pools and leave them unsupervised this summer.

Spokesperson Lauren Nimmo said some parents were leaving supervision to life guards.

“While the lifeguards provide a really important safety feature of many pools, they’re there to supervise and keep everyone in the facility safe,” she said on 6PR Afternoons.

“And when you’ve got hundreds of people in the facility you can’t really provide the close supervision that is require for young children.”
