Liam Bartlett: ‘There are two classes of criminals in this state’
6PR Mornings host Liam Bartlett says the suspended jail sentence to millionaire, high-flying WA businessman Nev Power is evidence of Perth’s skewed power base and class system based on money and wealth.
He said despite Power and his son Nick pleading guilty to breaching WA’s hard border rules last October, similar offences cost other regular offenders “very dearly”.
“There’s always been a feeling about Perth, about certain cliques, certain power bases, and a class system,” Bartlett told listeners on Thursday morning.
“Now we know for sure there are two classes of criminals in this state.
“There’s the common criminal, who ends up being fined or given jail time for common crime, and then there’s the corporate criminal, who commits the same crime, in the same way, but manages somehow to walk away from court without so much as a scratch.
“That line in the sand was drawn with complete clarity yesterday when Nev Power was permitted to walk away from court, without being fined a cent or spending a minute in jail.”
