An overhaul of Belgium’s labor laws that gives employees the right to work a 38-hour week over four days with no loss of pay has caught the attention of Liam Bartlett.

The 6PR Mornings host cited the arrangement, which also exists in France, Italy, Ireland and Germany, in relation to a recent proposal put forward by the WA Police Union.

“I’m a big fan of this… in Belgium they have adopted a four-day working week. The Belgian parliament has passed a law that allows Belgians to work four days a week, for full time pay, so you don’t lose any money.

“As well as the power to ignore after-hour work calls and emails. That’s the best bit.”

Figures released today showed WA’s unemployment rate had risen by 0.6% to 3.7%, while the national jobless figure is 4.2%
