Liam Bartlett and Mark Gibson’s images and personal details are the latest fake social media profiles that are being used to try scam our followers.

The scam is similar to the recently orchestrated post on Oliver Peterson’s fake profile, where it attempts to lure people in by saying they had won a prize and had to share their personal details including address, phone number and bank details in order to receive it.

Meg Coffey, Social Media Expert, told Mark Gibson on 6PR Breakfast that these types of scams happen all the time, and that Meta Facebook “just doesn’t care.”

“It’s happened to me three or four times now. The latest version is not just necessarily impersonating you, but impersonating you to try and sell crypto,” she told Mark.

Meg explained that she had reported this activity to Facebook, where their feedback stated it did not go against their community guidelines.

“This is happening to a lot of people. It is dangerous and it is identify theft. It’s very frustrating.”
