Legislation fast-tracked to protect minors from radicalisation but will it work?
Faced with the statistic that 17 of the 33 people before our courts for terrorism offences in 2025 are minors, the government has been prompted to fast-track legislation targeting adults who seek to influence or radicalise children.

Dr Josh Roose, Senior Research Fellow at Deakin University and an expert in religious and political violence and extremism, explained to Perth Today host Chrissy Morrissy that while this new law and the ban on kids under 16 from social media will help, it is not the “silver bullet” to stop the radicalisation of minors.
“Those narratives are broken down into very simple messaging that can appear for people who are angry and confused and looking for answers,” he said.
