Leaked documents left under the front door of the 6PR offices allegedly detail the authority the WA Premier would potentially have to overrule the State Administrative Tribunal, itself an independent judicial body.

The documents relate to the current Implementation Group revising changes to the Aboriginal Heritage Act, the legislation the Cook Government was forced to back down from after massing amounts of opposition.

Press PLAY to hear more about the alleged changes to the Premier’s powers

Opposition Planning, Environment, Lands & Heritage spokesperson Neil Thomson told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings it’s a worrying attempt to blur the lines between the legislature and judiciary.

“There are similar powers in the Planning and Development Act, but interestingly in those powers there’s a carve-out, which mean the Minister can’t call on the matter if it’s related to the Heritage Act,” Mr Thomson said.
