Does the Labor government’s economic blueprint do enough to weather the big storms on the horizon?

Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers delivered his first Budget last night, telling Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings that his team deliberately set up a foundation to begin the hard yards of Budget repair, admitting electricity prices will soar, inflation will peak next year and wages are going nowhere.

But cheaper childcare and medicines will help the bottom dollar of most families, until renewable more energy translates to cheaper bills.

“We want to get more renewables into the system, we’ve got a war in Ukraine that’s pushing prices above abroad and here,” he said.

The interview ended with quite the hilarious exchange between the pair.

Liam: I don’t think there’s a job in Australia today that would be less sought after than yours, no offence.

Jim : I think sometimes I feel the same way.
