Often touted as the best prime minister Australia never had, WA Governor and former federal ALP leader Kim Beazley has revealed his concern for Australia’s democratic system amid unprecedented social pressure on political leaders from a public fearful of the future and current pandemic.

In a rare and detailed interview with Larry Graham – filling in for Liam Bartlett on Mornings this week – the 73-year-old delved into his personal and public life, the state of politics in Western Australia and the nation, and the current cynicism of the electorate.

“The quality of democracy worries me … until I die, I always want to be engaged [in politics],” he said.
