A Perth real estate agency has copped backlash after rebranding its annual Australia Day barbeque.

Davey Real Estate has been hosting the charity event for 20 years, which raises funds for Cancer Council WA; however this year they have  decided to drop the ‘Australia Day’ tag after feedback from the community.

Principal Agent Andrew Davey says despite the change, it’s still caused some controversy.

“We were disappointed because it’s not about the politics for us…  we were trying to fly under the radar and just draw attention to the cause, but that was largely ignored,” Mr Davey said.
