It’s finally happening: Coles trials fully-automated checkouts

Coles has begun trialing completely automated checkouts in South Australia, with another potentially about to open in Perth’s southern suburbs.
Complaints against the self-serve only supermarket have already hit the media, especially from older people.
Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association Secretary Ben Harris told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings Coles may be a dominant consumer choice, but the decision may have adverse effects on business.
“We’re concerned about it; we want to see our members have good, stable jobs that customers appreciate,” Mr Harris said.
