Dr Katina Zammit, Deputy Dean of the School of Education at Western Sydney University told Oliver Peterson on Perth LiveĀ that handwriting is still very much alive for many adults in their work environment.

“The ability to take notes is very important as it is also a way to record your ideas and record what has been said so you can go back later and refer to it because we don’t always have a computer available,” she told Oly.

Dr Zammit highlighted that learning handwriting is particularly important during early years of schooling.

“The fine motor development that is necessary in regards to creating that text and transferring the ideas in your head down into something that is in a written form, so it very much is still an important skill to have.”

“It is becoming less of a use in terms of a communication form, but there is nothing like getting a personal letter in comparison to an email.”
