A new book by journalists Simon Benson and Geoff Chambers called Plagued, details the shocking revelations that former Prime Minister Scott Morrison secretly swore himself into additional roles of joint Health Minister, joint Finance Minister and joint Resources Minister during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Morgan Begg, Director of Legal Rights Program at the Institute of Public Affairs is calling for an independent inquiry into the legality of this revelation.

“I think it really confirms a lot of concerns that Australians have in particular to  transparency and accountability of decision making over the last couple of years,” he told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live.

“In our system of Government, the Minister is responsible to the Parliament but the members of Parliament can’t exercise scrutiny if they don’t know who the Minister is. And this is exactly what happened.”

“Scott Morrison was acting as a secret Minister and this was behind closed doors without anyone being aware – it is a big problem.”
