Hospitality venues left ‘scrambling’ to deal with vaccine requirements

Hospitality venues say they are “scrambling” to catch up to proof of vaccination requirements that came into effect from 6am on Tuesday.
High risk venues such as nightclubs, festivals and events over 500 people as well as pubs, taverns and hotels are now required to check the vaccine certificates of all patrons.
Owner of the Camfield, Tim McLernon, told 6PR Mornings he’s spent the last day preparing his venue.
“We’ve probably spent the last 12 hours … scrambling to firstly work out what exactly is required of us, and secondly how to do it,” he said.
“There’s always a gap between what’s announced in terms of restrictions, and actually the detail and how to implement it.
“So you do spend a lot of time sort of scrambling around, trying to work out exactly what it means.”
Owner of the Friends Restaurant, Clyde Bevan, said even though his venue is exempt from checking vaccine certificates because its capacity is under 500 people, he would welcome changes to those rules.
“Quite frankly, I wouldn’t mind if (the vaccine requirement) was brought down to our level,” he said on 6PR Mornings.
“We’re very lucky in Western Australia, we’ve got the luxury that no other part of Australia has had.”
