Chris Dawson was in the 6PR studios on Wednesday morning for his last appearance on the Breakfast program as WA Police Commissioner.

The state’s top cop, who will become WA Governor next month and be succeeded by deputy Col Blanch, shared rare insights about his time in the job and memorable moments from his eventful five-year stint.

He told Gareth Parker there were many operational highlights, “none more emotive” than the rescue of four-year-old Cleo Smith, who was abducted from a campsite in WA’s north, then found 18 days later, late last year.

“It was remarkable because it uplifted everyone in the community,” Dawson said, recalling how even hard-nosed prisoners cheered upon learning of the news.
