High drama: Kyrgios fumes at weed smoke smell at US Open

An agitated Nick Kyrgios defied a waft of marijuana, a stubborn Frenchman and a quiet support box to safely progress to the third round of the US Open in New York.
It was hardly a smoking performance but the Australian showman overcame distractions and drama to defeat Benjamin Bonzi 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and join compatriot Alex de Minaur in the last 32.
Kyrgios was bristling throughout the match but lost it midway through the second set after pleading with the chair umpire to do something about apparent pot-smoking spectators.
Marijuana was legalised in NY last September but Kyrgios made it clear it wasn’t welcome at Flushing Meadows.
